Happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend? I’ll be re-focusing on The Miracle Morning, which helped me finally get back on the right track. Breakdowns are often precursors to breakthroughs, so I’m looking at things optimistically. If you read the Lilly Pulitzer book, you know she “went away” for a bit and that’s what helped propel her to start her iconic brand. Excited for what the future holds! As Audrey said:
I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.
Audrey always knows best.
Below, this pink sweater (30% off with code FRIDAY) + weekend links, including an auction of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic pieces.
Weekend links:
“You’re allowed to be happy, but not in front me of me.” Can. Not. Wait.
Somebody give Jon Hamm a hug. Okay, fine, I’ll do it.
I can’t wait to try Julia’s recipe for Paleo Pumpkin Bread!
Audrey Hepburn’s private collection will be up for auction this month. (Thank you to all who sent this my way!)
Don’t you love seeing people’s daily routines? I just stumbled across A Day in the Life on Hulu and enjoyed this Marc Maron episode.
Will you be watching the Emmys this Sunday? RuPaul’s Drag Race, a show our friend Ross co-hosts is nominated this year, so we’re extra excited to see Ross + Sal on the red carpet! I’m also crossing my fingers that the creators/actors from Master of None, This Is Us, and Big Little Lies take home awards. And Sarah Silverman for A Speck of Dust. I didn’t see Insecure nominated for anything. What gives? Apparently for Issa Rae, that just fuels her fire.
Hooray for sweater weather! Okay, NOT during the day in Palm Springs (as I nearly fainted from heat stroke taking the above photos), but it’s now down into the 70s at night and I shiver when it gets below 80, so this was my first sweater purchase of the season and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Autoimmune diseases and chronic illnesses are no joke and often depression and anxiety go hand in hand. Stress, of course, makes them worse. And diet is essential to getting things under control. Self-care is crucial. Sending all the best to Selena and Lady Gaga, and can’t wait to watch Gaga’s documentary on Sept 22nd.
Have you seen the new Anthropologie Home catalog? It’s INSANE. Seriously lusting over so many things, especially this pink blush velvet chair and this pink quartz coffee table. Also eyeing these blush pink booties. Anthro is having a 20% off sale this weekend AND free shipping – danger danger!
While I don’t need another bar cart, this one that Joy designed (and is only $129) is calling my name. Joy, I’m blaming you when this arrives and Fred Baby says: But where will we put it?!
On Kelly Golightly this week:
I’ve got the eye of the tiger…
Just a few of the many reader comments that moved me to tears:
Kelly, No one would have guessed that you were literally running for your life behind the scenes of that beautiful transformation on your home for Modernism; I visited that week, and every detail in every room was perfection. I told Christopher it was his best one yet! Having experienced situational anxiety in response to a difficult divorce, I felt your pain come through every word you wrote–and am so happy that there were loving supporters at every turn to guide you through it. I found that as well! Bravo for getting to the other side. Your blog and photos and clothes and beautiful table settings are as lovely as you are. — Linda on How I Overcame a Breakdown
In the middle of my own thang, but seeing you come through makes my day – heck maybe even the week! Always goes to show, no matter what someone “posts,” everybody’s got a story. Cheers to you. — @dianahgruenke on this post
Your openness and honesty is not only courageous, but also refreshing. No doubt sharing your story will help others. I’m so glad to hear you’re finding your way back. I met you and @fredbaby13 the night of the gala at your new home and had no idea you were going through all of that!! As for the kind, supportive and loving relationship you & your husband have, it truly exemplifies my relationship goals! Sending positive thoughts that you’ll continue on this positive path. — @kimnbcla on this post
Great post! I remember having the best time at that after party! I didn’t know a soul and you and Christopher Kennedy were so nice and inviting! Your house is gorgeous, I had no idea how much you were going through. Thanks for sharing your story, it’s inspiring and brave to know what you had to overcome! — @pennyphilanthropy on this post
Awesome post on your blog. Other than Sarah’s I never really read any blogs but was tempted to read yours from this post. Beautifully written and very brave of you to wear your heart on your sleeve. You rock. Looking forward to part 2. Oh and @fredbaby13 you are a good man brutha. — @rupertsamuelupert on this post
What a great post. Sometimes our bodies just tell us what they need and we have to try and find a way to listen – unfortunately the world around us especially one filled with appearances, pictures and design doesn’t stop just because we can barely move. I’m sorry that you are going through this. The worst about any type of Auto Immune (I have Lupus) is the lack of control over it. Any emotional stress can trigger it into a spiral of sorts and then it can take forever to crawl out of it. Having the support of your husband and friends is so special and hopefully you can look back and enjoy your home with only fond memories of everything you had to overcome in order to achieve it. — Jennifer on Facebook
Your post is greatly appreciated. Courageous, compassionate and real! So many going through the often nonnegotiable realities of anxiety are the strongest people I know. Through all this you’ve produced some of the greatest 21st century Southern CA lifestyle images period, let alone blogging, styling, and marketing… on and on. To take on a significant property, and undergo such a major renovation is epic under any circumstances. I have so much respect for you both. Angst be gone, and smoother sailing with health as well! I didn’t want to overlook this post as I can relate, and appreciate the challenges. — Roland on Facebook
I am so grateful for this community of smart, kind women (and men). A wonderful reminder that we are all in this together and there is much more than meets thy eye behind the ‘gram.
