New York Fashion Week’s spring 2012 collections have come to a close and there’s a lot to look forward to, including sherbert hues and lots of peppy neon. I can’t wait! I’ve combed thru all of the collections – yes, all of them — to find the top looks and pieces that I actually want to wear come spring (because that’s how we actually live and shop isn’t it, not by buying entire cohesive collections, but by scooping up what tugs on our heartstrings and then making it all work together?). I’d love for you to play along and tell me what pieces you want to make yours. Let’s shop the runways, shall we? First up, I want all three of these candy-colored looks from Alice + Olivia. After all, a girl needs something to wear to ice cream socials, right?
A girl also needs something to wear to Gatsby-style lawn parties, which is why I’m dying over these Anna Sui looks. Butterfly tights and dramatic hats, anyone?
Hot pinks and florals? Don’t mind if I do ADAM. (Are you loving that neon pink piping too?)
Sometimes a lady needs a simple ’30s/’40s-inspired slip dress to wear under her faux fur coat (for those chilly spring nights, natch). Thank goodness for Calvin Klein’s peachy perfection. Other times, a girl needs a sporty-chic top with a long chartreuse or poppy red skirt for excursions to Whole Foods and the bank. If you’re that girl, Christian Siriano is your guy.
What to wear when you have a hot date or interview? DVF, of course.
Oh, you were invited to yet another Gatsby-style lawn party? No worries, Imitation of Christ has your back.
Sometimes you want nothing more than to match the wallpaper, am I right ladies? Isaac Mizrahi knows what you need.
Dear Jenna Lyons, I love you. Let’s bake cupcakes and watch John Hughes movies together. Oh, and I’ll take one of everything from J.Crew, thanks!
Let’s invite Jenny Packham to the slumber party too, okay? I mean maybe she’ll let us borrow a dress if we ask nicely. Maybe?
Tired of the LBD? Have you considered an LCD (little chartreuse dress)? Try it, you’ll like it. Jason Wu says so. And he knows.
Need a new daytime wardrobe? Jill Stuart’s palm tree prints might strike your fancy. Or maybe a Karen Walker jumper is more your style? Oh, you need something a bit more conservative for the office? Jason Wu’s daytime ensemble of neon peachy pink and black hits the nail on the proverbial head, so to speak.
Jenna, I’m so sorry, but I’ve met someone else. Her name is Kelly Wearstler and she makes my heart go thumpity thump. I’m sorry, but you don’t choose love, love chooses you.
Hoping for an invite to the Oscars this year? Great, can I be your date? I already know who I’ll wear. No, not George Clooney ( I mean unless you know him). That’s right, Marchesa!
Oh, but what to wear the morning after for Oprah’s Oscar special? What? Oprah’s not doing that anymore? Shut your mouth! I’m wearing neon Nanette Lepore whether Oprah shows up or not.
Oh, but which Nanette Lepore dress to pick? What do you think? Stripes? Lace?
What’s that? You want to borrow something to wear to your big job interview? Well, I suppose I could part with some of my Milly… but only if you pinky swear you’ll give it back right away. Pink swear? Okay…
Have you seen the new Tracy Reese? Reese’s pieces (oh, ha!) are divine, aren’t they? Aw man, now I really want some Reese’s Pieces, like pronto.
What’s that? Posh says no eating? Grrr. Well at least her darling new Victoria by Victoria Beckham line makes up for her hard and fast rules. That, and David Beckham. Swoooon. Double swoon over those scalloped details, cat and cloud prints and Peter Pan collars.
Well that was exhausting, wasn’t it? What’s say we take a dip in the pool to wind down? Great, shall I wear my Marc by Marc Jacobs one-piece or a Tracy Reese number? Either way, I’m bringing my parasol — parasols are sure to be a must-have for spring (mark my words) xx!
What are you most looking forward to come spring? Neon? Lace? Vintage-inspired slip dresses? Parasols? I’d love to know… I’d also love to know which designer made your heart race?
