Still in the spirit of Thanksgiving and counting my blessings, this New York Times story, War’s Other Enduring Videos, about soldiers surprising their families by coming home early from war made me cry like a baby (or like when I watch Sleepless in Seattle). One of the little girls is even from Randolph Air Force Base (in San Antonio) where I went to school (indeed, I am an Air Force brat). Her reaction is priceless. I was very lucky, as my Dad was always around (for better or worse — kidding, Dad!), but to see that these families go through these emotional ups (Daddy’s home!) and downs (Daddy’s leaving — again) all the time is really mind-boggling and touching. A big salute to all of our troops and their brave families for their sacrifices. Hold your loved ones tight this holiday season — and always. Photo via HistoryImages.com
