“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”
I’ve always loved this line — and the idea of a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils — from Tom Hanks’ character Joe Fox in You’ve Got Mail.
It always amazes me how powerful seasons are, even in places like Southern California, where you typically think it’s summer all year round. It may be more subtle, but the shift is there. It’s in the way the light hits, and how the winds blows. Here in Palm Springs, the sun is beginning to set behind the mountain earlier and suddenly I feel like nesting, cozying up on the couch to watch Nora Ephron movies, and read every book I can get my hands on.
There’s always an excitement around a new season too, a fresh slate to start anew. New projects, new endeavors. Do you have any projects you’re excited about now that it’s October? Something that may call for a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils? I’m working on a very exciting endeavor of my own that I can’t wait to share soon.
Until then, happy first day of October + I hope you enjoy this transitional look from New York Fashion Week.
