Do you know the iconic photo of Audrey Hepburn and bougainvillea, photographed in Italy in 1955 by Norman Parkinson? It’s one of my all-time favorite photos of Audrey Hepburn and one that I’ve wanted to recreate for our Style Icon Project series for years. I’m happy to say we finally did! Check out the series below…

Here is the original photo of Audrey Hepburn and bougainvillea, in Italy in 1955, by Norman Parkinson. Audrey is wearing a Givenchy dress from the Spring/Summer 1955 collection. Photographed at ‘La Vigna’, Hepburn’s villa outside Rome, Italy, for Glamour magazine, June 23, 1955.
While I’m not in Italy, we are so lucky to be blessed with beautiful bougainvillea in Palm Springs.
All it really took was locating a similar pink dress like Audrey wears.
Well, that and an incredible photographer.
I’m looking at you, Fred Baby.
I actually found this dress on Rent the Runway.
RENT THE RUNWAY
Have you ever used Rent the Runway?
I’ve used Rent the Runway a few times in the past for events — it’s perfect for special occasions like weddings and when you think you’ll only wear a dress once — but have been giving their Rent the Runway Unlimited program a whirl (not sponsored, just through my friend Alle).
RENT THE RUNWAY UNLIMITED
In case you’re not familiar, you can use their regular program and just rent a dress once (this dress would be $65 to rent one time). Or, you can sign up for Rent the Runway Unlimited, where you pay $99 to $159/month and get to choose 4 dresses (or items) at a time, and then keep swapping them out.
If you love something after you rent it, you also have the option to buy it. For instance, I could now decide to buy this dress for $119, which is 80% off of the original retail price of $595.
Should I do it?
You can find the dress here.
I also love this pink Audrey Hepburn dress and this pink high-low dress.
