6 Chic Ways to Style a Pleated Dress

As we step into this new fashion season, one piece that can be worn in this transitional time of both warmer and cooler weather is the timeless pleated dress! A beautiful blend of grace and style, pleated dresses are way more versatile than you might initially think. Today, I am thrilled to share with you six easy yet chic ways to style your pleated dress, turning a single piece into a powerhouse of outfits that can take you from a brunch with your friends to a wedding, baby shower or a night on the town.

1. As-Is with Sandals

Classic and chic

Embrace the warm weather and let your pleated dress shine by wearing it as-is and styled simply with your favorite pair of sandals. In this case, Sydne and I both paired ours with gold blockk heels. Complete the look with a scarf tied around your ponytail for an effortlessly chic touch that also feels classic and a little retro at once. Easy, breezy and ready for the skirt flick! This would also be a great look for a. wedding or baby shower!

2. T-Shirt with Sneakers

Casual and playful

Take your pleated dress into casual territory by layering a simple white t-shirt underneath (the thinner the tee the better, as you don’t want to add bulk). Add a pair of sneakers, and you have a look that is both comfortable and unexpected — perfect for a day of shopping, a casual lunch date, or running errands. If it’s cool out, toss a denim jacket on top — or even sweatshirt. It’s all about ease. Tip: In this case, I would ditch the belt and wear your pleated dress loose and free. Think London It-girl.

3. Cardigan with Flats

Cohesive and comfy

For those cooler days, or when you’ll be indoors with the AC, drape a cozy cardigan over your pleated dress. A shorter cardi that’s more fitted is ideal for a more elevated look. Pair with classic flats for a look that is both comfortable and coordinated. Opt for a cardigan in a contrasting color to add a vibrant layer to your outfit, perfect for an afternoon tea or a stroll through the park in style.

4. Moto Jacket with Boots

Edgy and unexpected

Channel your inner cool-girl by throwing a leather moto jacket over your pleated dress. Pair with a set of ankle boots or knee-high boots for a city-chic look. It’s the mixing of two opposites that makes this look work — the soft pleated dress with the tougher moto jacket and boots that make this look work.

5. Sweater with Platform Heels

Sophisticated and modern

Turn your pleated dress into a skirt by layering a sweater on top. Choose a drapey oversized sweater for a relaxed, French-girl vibe (think cashmere). Or, toss on a fitted shrunken sweater for a more polished look. Pair with platform heels to add height and sophistication to your ensemble. Remember, it’s all about creating textures and layers that work harmoniously together.

6. Button-Down Underneath

Classic with a twist

Elevate your pleated dress by wearing a white button-down shirt underneath it for a look that is both classic and modern. Tip: Make sure you wear the collar out and over your pleated dress’ neckline. Finish the outfit with a pair of elegant heels. You could even add a blazer to make this a great outfit option for the office.

How Would You Wear It?

Is classic more your style or would you shake it up a little by going more casual or even edgy?

I love pieces that can be styled and restyled in countless ways.

However you wear it, remember to have fun and twirl!
