You’ll never believe what our guest bedroom used to look like before Sarah Sherman Samuel got her too-talented-for-words hands on it (seriously, she’s currently designing Mandy Moore’s house!). See how she transformed the bedroom from dark and lifeless into a sophisticated millennial pink palace fit for family and friends! Hint: This wallpaper helped A LOT!
Note: In honor of Sarah Sherman Samuel’s new TV show on Magnolia Network, Inspired Interiors by Sarah Sherman Samuel, I bumped this post up. It was originally published in 2017!
BEFORE
Here’s a peek at the before. Sorry the pics are blurry and dark, they’re the only ones we seem to have. The good news is the room was already really spacious, big enough to be a second master suite, in fact. But with only one small window, it was dark. Those are white bookcases to the left, which made us think this room probably was used as an office before.
BEFORE
The one and only window, which looks out to the side of the house, where the landscaping goes uphill, so not much light gets in. The floors were new, but they were faux wood. And while they didn’t look terrible, walking on them gave that hollow feeling.
BEFORE
To the right is the entry to the en suite bathroom. And you can catch the tiniest peek of what was the wet bar. Not pictured, which is such a pity because WOW was it something, was the area opposite the small window. There was actually another window, a frosted glass one with an eagle etched in glass. Yep. That window (er, art?) looked out to the hallway and atrium.
We debated if we should replace it with a regular window, where you could draw the curtains closed for privacy, and open them if you wanted more light, but ultimately decided to just ix-nay the window completely. The wet bar and bookcases also were removed, which left the room feeling much more balanced. Now on to the good stuff…

Our Millennial Pink Guest Bedroom Designed by Sarah Sherman Samuel
Ta-da! I told you Sarah was a genius! That amazing pink agate wallpaper? She actually designed it herself!
The pink agate wallpaper is sadly no longer available so I linked similar pink agate geode marble wallpaper options.
But Sarah, please bring it back!

When she first brought up the idea of the pink wallpaper, I was totally on board. We just needed to convince Fred Baby. Shockingly, he was all for it. I knew I married that guy for a reason. 😉
AFTER
When it came time to decide if we would just wallpaper one or two walls or the entire room, I was leaning towards just one or two walls. After all, it could feel overwhelming if you were surrounded by it everywhere.
However, Fred Baby said if you’re gonna go for it, then really go for it, so we did! That was Sarah’s preference too, so how could I say no? It also helped that Fred Baby was able to render out the room in a program to see how it would look beforehand, and it did look best when all of the walls were covered in that gorgeous wallpaper.
AFTER
There’s been a lot of talk about millennial pink lately and this pink fits the bill. But it’s such a sophisticated take on it.
AFTER
The thing I was amazed by was how much it brightened up the room. I initially worried that with it everywhere, it could feel even darker in an already dark room, but luckily the exact opposite happened. If you have a dark room, I would highly recommend going this route.
Sarah balanced it out with a combo of organic-looking furniture — natural woods like with the dresser (similar), side stool, nightstands, and coffee table (she actually MADE that coffee table, and it will be for sale soon), and then added in lots of white and brass accents to up the glam factor.
AFTER
If these quartz Kelly Wearstler sconces aren’t glam, I don’t know what is.
AFTER
Sarah is so naturally gifted at mixing organic elements with glamorous touches. The effect is always so effortlessly cool.
AFTER
It’s just a HUGE bonus that she’s one of the nicest, most down-to-earth people I’ve ever met.
AFTER
Um, and not to sound like a broken record, but she MADE that graphic art too! Seriously, girl has major chops.
AFTER
This amazing art is by Carly Kuhn (aka @TheCartorialist). I love the two pieces she created for this room. As you might remember, I love that sphere floor lamp too, as I also used it in the Glamily Room that I designed. That pretty chair is from Consort Design and it’s the perfect shade of lavender. Sadly it’s no longer available but this is a great similar lilac velvet chair.
AFTER
You can see here the room is quite large for a guest bedroom, so Sarah created a nice sitting area. The sofa and Mongolian fur stools are from West Elm, as is that amazing oversized round mirror hanging above the dresser.

The Crossville flooring made a big difference too. It’s a pale grey tile, which went with the room perfectly. I also love all of the white accessories on those acrylic and brass shelves from Lamps Plus.

We adore how it all came together and have had many visitors already, who all have loved the room!
AFTER
The bedside tables/nightstands were a vintage find from Chairish but I’ve linked similar ones below. And those amazing statement lamps are by Kelly Wearstler.
Bedding is from Parachute.
AFTER
And the groovy overhead light is from Ferguson, as are the Kelly Wearstler quartz sconces. I love how the shape mimics the shape of the agate wallpaper. Sarah literally transformed this room from a dark, unwelcoming cave into a glamorous pink cocoon of chic!
