A Colorful Adventure to Desert X | Frances Valentine Yellow Caftan | Kelly Golightly

How was your weekend? We had a colorful adventure exploring Desert X art installations in Palm Springs. This fluorescent orange piece called Specter by Sterling Ruby standing solo in the middle of the desert was a colorful surprise. I happened to have on my two new favorite colorful pieces — this yellow caftan + blue faux fur coat for the occasion. Read on for details about Desert X 2019 + what I’m wearing…

First, let’s chat about this yellow caftan. It’s by my favorite brand, Frances Valentine. In addition to charming, colorful shoes and bags, they just launched caftans and they are PERFECT.

The caftan comse in red, blue, white and yellow, and while I love them all, I couldn’t resist the yellow. Which is your favorite?

The roomy sizing, cut of the sleeves, and beautiful embroidery make this caftan special.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 4, the smallest size available and it’s a nice roomy but not too roomy fit. I’m usually a 2 but would recommend the 4 for anyone a size 0-6.

Now let’s talk about my favorite recent splurge, this blue faux fur coat!

I am obsessed! It’s soooo soft and cozy. It makes you feel instantly glamorous. I’ve owned it for all of four days, and have worn it four out of four days — to the Locale Magazine launch party (fairly fancy) to a casual walk to an open house in the neighborhood with jeans, tennis shoes + a sweater, and here with a caftan exploring Desert X 2019 installations. It’s quite versatile!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a size UK 40, which is said to be equivalent to a size US 2. It’s meant to be roomy and oversized. At first, I almost sent it back for one size smaller, but I’m so glad I didn’t because after wearing it a few times, now I find the fit to be perfect.

Fashion aside, now let’s talk Desert X 2019!

ABOUT DESERT X 2019

Desert X is a series of public art installations scattered throughout the Greater Palm Springs area. You can find out more on the Desert X website and get a scavenger hunt map to the locations sprinkled throughout the desert. They are free, open to the public and up for viewing now through April 30th.

I’ll be sure to share more from the different Desert X locations as we continue to explore them!

You can see peeks from previous Desert X 2017 installations here and here, including the Mirror House entitled Mirage by artist Doug Aitken, as well as Phillip K. Smith III’s “The Circle of Land and Skyhere and Claudia Comte’s “Curves and Zigzagshere.

Have you been to Desert X? If so, do you have a  favorite installation? If not yet, is there one you’re most excited to see?
