One of fashion’s greatest talents, Lee Alexander McQueen of the label Alexander McQueen, was found dead at his London home earlier today. WWD confirmed reports that the 40-year-old designer committed suicide.
McQueen’s family issued a statement reading, “On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family. Lee’s family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.”

McQueen lost his mother Joyce recently, as well as close friend and mentor Isabella Blow to suicide three years ago.
This will undoubtedly cast a shadow over New York Fashion Week, which kicks off today, for the last time at Bryant Park. McQueen’s lower-priced line, McQ, was scheduled to be presented at 3pm today, but has been canceled.
