sfbatkid miles scott sf batkid; batman for a day; make a wish san francisco

Happy Friday! What are you up to? We’re still in San Francisco, where today I witnessed the most amazing thing from my hotel room high above Union Square…SFBatkid!

As I was stirring awake I began to hear chanting and music from outside. This is downtown San Francisco, so I assumed it was a protest, which are as plentiful as dotcom millionaires here in the City by the Bay. The chanting got louder and louder and sounded happier and happier so I got up to see what all the fuss was about. Parade? Not exactly. It was the city of San Francisco gathered in Union Square to see Batkid (which I found out via Twitter, naturally — #SFBatkid)!

Batkid is five-year-old Miles Scott, who has been battling leukemia for the past three years. When Make-A-Wish San Francisco asked him what he wanted more than anything in the world, he said he wanted to be Batman, his favorite superhero.

Today, thousands of San Francisco residents, along with Make-A-Wish, made that wish come true by transforming San Francisco into Gotham City, and letting Batkid fight crime and save the day.

I witnessed the tail end of things, complete with two Batmobiles and a dancing flashmob, but Batkid had a big day, stopping a bank robbery and rescuing a woman from the cable car tracks.

You can read all about it here. And see Batkid’s itinerary here.

This is the kind of thing you only ever see in movies, so I feel especially lucky that I got to witness a part of it and couldn’t help but think of my sweet Kayleebug, who LOVES Batman (she dressed as Robin this year and watches the old Adam West Batmans over and over again). Imagine how amazing it is to become your favorite super hero. Her little head would explode! I can only assume little Miles is on cloud nine.

Of course the absolute best part of the story is that Miles’ leukemia is now in remission.

Let’s help some more wishes come true and donate to Make-A-Wish. Or get your favorite little super hero their own BatKicks — 100% of the net proceeds go to Make-A-Wish San Francisco (I’m SO getting Kaylee a pair for Christmas!).

Have a great weekend & you’re never too old to believe in super heroes xx!
