My dears, did you enjoy your Easter? Last week, I was invited by DIY diva Kristen Turner of Glitter ‘n Glue to a crafternoon of ombre dying, which we surmised was the like the grown-up version of dyeing Easter eggs. But instead of white eggs, we used white clothing!

What’s a crafternoon? Just a lovely afternoon of crafting and cocktails (and sweet nibbles) with some of your favorite friends. In this case, fashion stylists and bloggers Sydne Summer of Think Thru Fashion, Laurie Brucker of Laurie B Style and our hostess with the mostest, Kristen Turner of Glitter ‘n Glue.

Here are a few shots from the day.

You’ll just need a few supplies, starting with some Rit Dye

And something comfy to to do your DIY dyeing in…

Mix your dye color of choice with hot water in a large bowl, stir, and dip. As you let the first third of your clothing item soak, enjoy some lemonade and a chocolate-covered strawberry. Praise yourself for imbibing so many vitamins via citrus. And let’s not forget those antioxidants in the chocolate.

After five minutes, add in the next third of your clothing item for about two minutes. Gossip. Talk business plans. One up each other with your clever dye and ombre puns. Plan next crafternoon. Next, flash dip in the last third of your clothing item for less than a minute. Wring and lay flat to dry.

Revel in how you just took something kinda drab and made it kinda fab, for very little green. Bask in the glow of your genius (okay, your friend’s genius). Ponder how you could be the next Martha… or, Amy Sedaris.

If you’re dying to dye something ombre-style yourself, be on the lookout at Glitter ‘n Glue for full instructions over the next few weeks. It was a blast and an easy, inexpensive way to breathe new life into old clothing.  What do you think? Do you dye?
